How to Buy Designer Rain Boots

Anyone who visualizes drab Army green or shiny black rubber when the conversation turns to rain boots may be headed for a pleasant surprise.  Not only do these boots now come in every color of the rainbow, but they are actually being marketed by some of the leading fashion designers.  From the nostalgic look of Laura Ashley to timeless classic of Burberry Plaid, there is no shortage of patterns, colors, and sizes.  Prices cover a wide range, and there is a pair for every shopper.  Although some styles can be found in local stores and catalogs, the internet offers an unlimited selection and much helpful information.

It is almost time for cold weather; and if there is anything worse than cold feet, it is wet, cold feet.   Days are getting shorter, and gray skies are ahead; designer rain boots can keep feet warm and cozy and bring a bit of cheer at the same time. They, also, come in styles that maintain a professional look for the business-person or a whimsical flair for the artistic soul.  Chances are shoppers do not realize the many options and how to find them.  A little information makes the search easier.

First of all, rain boots come in several different heights.  The lowest styles are ideal for any situation where normal shoes would become wet.  They are favorites for gardening, working outdoors, or walking pets.  For those who want more protection from rain, sleet, or snow, rain boots that extend to the mid-calf or knee are popular.   Many of the designer boots come in the taller heights, and imagination and budget are the only limits.  Although they are usually constructed of rubber, waterproof leather is becoming more common.  Following the manufacturer’s directions for maintenance is important, but most boots need to wiped down and dried after being wet.  Conditioners for different materials are available too, and these can extend the working life of frequently worn boots.

Colorful, snappy designs, especially those for children, can be found in discount stores for as little as $25; however, the prices of well-made designer boots can run as high as several hundred dollars. Shown on the runways by trendy designers the past few years, this new trend is quickly becoming accessible to the fashion conscious masses.  Whether paired with a mini-dress by models or worn as classics for their original purpose, rain boots have come a long way.

At the high end of the spectrum, Dolce & Gabbana’s boot made of black leather and rubber retails for around $450. In the same price range, rain boots by Jimmy Choo or  Gucci are another alternative. For about half that cost, however, Burberry makes a rain boot in its classic plaid that sells online for $225 and teams up perfectly with traditional trench coats.  Actually, it is hard to find a designer who is not taking advantage of this new trend.  Tommy Hilfiger even offers boots in a timeless riding style. Shoppers who need rain boots for sporting events or other practical purposes may want to look for special features, such as fast-drying Gore-tex.  In this case, the ageless boots from retailers like LLBean and Sperry provide traditional style and durability.
